Quite a background for Jordan Askill who, after working as a designer for Ksubi in Sydney and then for Dior Homme in Paris (with Hedi Slimane), is launching his own brand: jewelry inspired by the nostalgic memories of childhood, with the technique and aesthetics of jewelry of yesteryear, and of course the world around us.

Worth Returns

PARIS — The eternally successful fragrance Je Reviens, from the house of the 19th-century couturier Charles Frederick Worth, seems to be living up to its name — “I’ll be back.”

Giovanni Beden’s style for the house of Worth.

The Worth collection that Giovanni Beden showed Tuesday, a first step toward relaunching a couture line, focused on the Edwardian corsets for which Worth was famous.

But these 2010 confections of feather and lace, richly decorated and shapely, had a cute new look: Tiny tulle skirts turned the historical crinolines into a racier and more modern shape. The task now is to lure clients back for these made-to-order pieces.

Couture Cometh

00120big 320x480 Couture ComethCHRISTIAN DIOR took centre stage at couture week yesterday, with a collection of dresses designed to make you sigh. Never content to languish in familiar sartorial surroundings, Galliano took his Dior girls to the horses this season with a dressage-inspired offering of jackets and skirts followed by an array of lace and satin, which as last season boasted just a hint of 1947′s New Look.

Giorgio Armani (who seemed to be the only one not looking forward to the Christian Dior show -read about the war between the houses here), also showed his Privé collection yesterday, offering his usual brand of red carpet elegance bathed in sparkling moonlight. The lunar motif recurred throughout the show – in the palette, the jewellery and the oversized set – and shapes were sharp and streamlined.

Models wear creations by British fashion designer Paul Smith during his Men's Fall Winter 2010-2011 fashion collection presented in Paris, Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010.

PARIS – Paul Smith won’t let the music die.

The eccentric British designer, who got his start hawking T-shirts to the likes of The Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd back when they were newcomers, delivered Sunday an anarchic fall-winter 2010-2011 menswear collection steeped in vintage rock ‘n’ roll attitude.

The looks were all over the place.

Models — including some musicians culled from French and British bands for the occasion — sported mismatched suits in Harris tweeds, layers of chunky sweaters, and shawl-collared jackets and bowler hatsor knit caps. They clunked down the catwalk in combat boots or padded softly in velvet dressing slippers and were draped in scarves, with punk touches such as safety pin earrings.
